What do I send along?
We need for your dog to have a collar on. Other than that, any medications your dog might need.
Do I need to provide food?
Not necessary. Once or twice a day, food is included in your pet’s stay. If you know that your pet has a sensitive digestive tract and may have problems switching food, you may want to send their own food. We feed premium brand kibble and add a little of our “Country Stew” or canned meat to moisten the kibble and to stimulate their appetite. The Stew is made of de-boned chopped whole chicken, rice or potato flakes, and some bland vegetables. The dogs generally love it!!
Should I provide toys or bedding for my dog?
No need to. We have lots of chew toys, stuffed toys, Frisbees, etc…, and dogs tend to be possessive about their own toys. We have doggy hammocks as well as plenty of rugs and blankets for sleeping. We try to discourage sending the larger dog beds along as they are hard to wash if they were to become soiled.
What Vaccinations are required?
For the protection of everyone’s pets, we require all guest dogs to be current on all of their inoculations. This would include Rabies, DHLP + P combination vaccine, and Bordatella. Most Veterinarians agree that the Bordatella vaccine is good for a year whereas the nasal spray is good for only 6 months.
For visits to Shylo starting in the spring of 2010, we strongly suggest (but do not require), all dogs be current on the new Canine Influenza vaccine. Based on our discussions with Veterinarians we think that the vaccine is a good idea but not all Vets agree, so we suggest that you check with your Veterinarian for his/her opinion. Immunization for the new vaccine requires that 2 shots be given a few weeks apart.
We also recommend the new “Giardia” vaccine though we don’t require it. We do require a current copy of your dog’s shot record for our files, or at least your Veterinarian’s phone number so that we can conduct a verbal verification.
Suggestions for the trip to the Country Club?
We suggest NOT feeding or watering an hour or two prior to the trip to reduce the chances of car sickness.
My dog came home from Shylo very tired and slept a lot the first day home. Is this normal?
Yes, this is quite common. Just like when you go vacation if you’ve been a lot more active than you normally are, you’re going to come home pretty “worn out”.
What days are you open?
We live on premises and are here 365 days a year, but are closed to the public for drop-offs, pick-ups, and tours on NEW YEARS DAY, MEMORIAL DAY, 4TH of JULY, LABOR DAY, THANKSGIVING, and CHRISTMAS DAY.
